In the 12th century, in Ajmer, Arnoraja, grandfather of Prithviraj Chauhan built an artificial lake called Ana Sagar Lake. Surrounding the lake are the Daulat Bagh Gardens, built by Jehangir. Later Shahjahan built pavilions also known as Baradari across the lake. The Ana Sagar Lake is the biggest lake in Ajmer city spread across 13kms of area. You can rent out boats from Daulat Bagh to the island at the centre of the lake. Construction in the catchment area of the lake basins is banned by the Rajasthan High Court. It is a very popular tourist location.
