The Paltan Bazaar is one of the oldest bazaars in our country since 1935 and is situated in Dehradun, It is where the British men used to come on their horses in groups which is where it got its name from. The shops here are administered under the law that states that the land belongs to the government and the shopkeepers use it on lease for commercial purposes. Also, the law states that the government can take over all the shops from the bazaar and its land in the state of emergency. Paltan Bazaar had limited number of shops until 1935. After India’s independence in 1947,this became a full fledged bazaar and now is one of the most important places in the city. This market also attracted a lot of Britishers during their rule in India until 1947.
