Shailaputri is the first form of goddess Durga. She is the daughter of Himalaya. And so her name means daughter of the mountains. She sits on a bull (Nandhi) with a trishul onthe right hand and a lotus on the left hand. She is offered pure ghee because her devoteed believe that if they offer pure ghee, she will give them a life without illness.
