Bandra Fair The fair at Mount Mary Church, popularly called the Bandra Fair, is generally held on the Sunday after the Feast of Nativity of Mary. The fair is estimated to be around 300 years old. Bandra Fair is a grand carnival celebrated at the Basilica of Our Lady of Mount, Bandra, which is a 100 year old Roman Catholic Church dedicated to Mother Mary. It is celebrated in the month of September every year for 8 to 10 days, starting from September 8th to September 15th. Bandra Fair (Mount Mary Fair) is an 8 day festive event to celebrate the birth of Virgin Mary. It is believed that Mother Mary was born on September 8. Every year Mount Mary Basilica at Bandra celebrates the feast to “Our Lady of the Mount”. Bandra Fair has a carnival-like atmosphere with shopping stalls, food stalls, street events, games, amusement rides, concerts, etc. Mount Mary Bandra Fair takes place within the Mount Mary Church complex and in the lanes around the church. There are also stalls that sell speciality sweets, including guava cheese, kadio bodio, rubber halwa and giant slabs of aam papad. They even sell varieties of pickles from Rajasthan. Children are among the most excited among other people who visits Bandra fair as they get more attracted towards the fun & fair and get an opportunity to buy toys, dhols, flying toys and bubbles pack and and other goodies and most commonly enjoying shooting the balloons game and winning prices. With such huge crowd in, Security is always a concern. So, Private volunteers and Securities along with few hundreds of policemen are always keeping watch on people and activity around. CCTV cameras are all in place, Strict checking always done in case of any doubts.
