In the year 1966, she became the first woman Prime Minister of our country. Not only is she the first woman in history to become India’s Prime Minister, she is also the only woman Prime Minister the country has ever had. Indira Gandhi is the daughter of India’s first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. She was not only his daughter but also served as his personal secretary and helper while he was discharging his duties as the Indian Prime Minister. Indira Gandhi was truly one of the most remarkable political leaders our country has ever had. She still has the record for the second longest serving Prime Minister of our country after her father Jawaharlal Nehru who has held office the longest. Indira Gandhi was assassinated when she was in power after her execution of the Operation Blue Star on 31st October 1984. She was assassinated by two of her bodyguards. No matter what, when the history of India is written, Indira Gandhi’s time as a Prime Minister will always have a prime spot.
